Our school, together with other foreign nautical institutes, took part in an Erasmus-based project called “High Tides”, whose main purpose was to encourage the collaboration and the cultural exchange between nautical schools from different areas of the world, infact the involved institutes were from Italy, Turkey, England, Spain and Finland.
Last year, as part of this project, a group of students from our school travelled to Finland, to spend there one week.
At first, when I was asked to join this trip, I was a bit stranged because I would have never thought to visit Finland in my life but after this propose I started thinking about this trip and as a result I became always more curious, so, after few days, I accepted. I was looking forward to visit this unknown and fascinating country and finally on the 12th of February we left to Helsinki, the capital of finland. Then we were transferred to Rauma, a town located north-west from Helsinki, where we spent an entire week during which we visited the Winnova institute, a local nautical school, and a number of places and structures linked to the marine life, such as the local Rollas-Royce factory where this prestigious company produces propellers and propulsion equipment and sells them all around the world.
During this week we even had free-time during which we were free to explore and visit the most peculiar places of the town and we met a lot of guys coming from foreign countries. This allowed us not only to expand our technical knowledge, but even to approach different cultures , new ways of thinking and alternative living habits. After this experience I really feel richer: I earned no money but I gained new friends and priceless experiences.
